Evaporation is a unit operation in which a solution containing a non-volatile solute is heated to a boiling condition by means of heat, so that part of the solvent is vaporised and removed, thereby increasing the concentration of the solute in the solvent. Application of evaporation operation in industrial production has the following occasions:
1. Concentration of dilute solution directly to produce products or concentrated solution reprocessing (such as cooling crystallisation) to produce solid products, such as electrolytic caustic soda concentration, sugar concentration of aqueous solutions and a variety of fruit juices concentration and so on.
2. At the same time the concentration of solutions and recovery of solvents, such as organophosphorus pesticides, benzene solution concentration of benzene, alcohol leachate evaporation in the production of traditional Chinese medicine, etc.
3. In order to obtain pure solvent, such as desalination.
In short, in the chemical industry, food industry, pharmaceutical and other industries, evaporation operations are widely used.
